Dead Horse Studio was named many years ago during it's first incarnation at owner Jon Gold's home. At that time Jon lived 15 miles west of Las Vegas, New Mexico. His property was bounded on the south by Dead Horse Creek. It seemed like a good idea to name the burgeoning studio as such for several reasons. First of all, no one is going to forget such an outrageous name. Also, a little tongue and cheek. After 57 takes the old saying "you can't beat a ..............". Anyway, for all of you who are concerned, no horses were harmed in the naming of the studio!

Eventually the studio outgrew the house and Jon moved the studio to Las Vegas, N.M. There it continued to grow and attract many local musicians. After several years Jon decided to move the whole kit and caboodle to Taos, New Mexico where it is currently thriving. The idea was to attract a more eclectic mix of musicians and a variety of projects and talent.

It is not uncommon for a client to come into the studio, sigh, relax and exclaim, "I'm home." That's the vibe at Dead Horse Studio - relaxed, creative, yet professional. Jon and the staff encourage creativity and comfort. The warmth of the studio is enhanced by the wood-lined walls and floors.

Jon Gold - Chief Engineer and Andy Byrd guest engineer have just been awarded "Engineers of the Year" by the New Mexico Music Awards. This is Jon's second win in this prestigous category.
